Samsung Galaxy S II ICS Update - March 15 in Isreal

Rumors of a March launch for the Samsung Galaxy SII's Android 4.0 upgrade have been circulating for a while, but now it seems we may have the first official word on when the update will land. Samsung Mobile Israel has today made a statement on its official Facebook page, saying it expects ICS for the Galaxy S II to roll out on unlocked and carrier-branded handsets in Israel from Mar. 15.
Roughly translated, the post reads --
We promised we were working on it. You waited patiently. And on 15 March it'll arrive: Android version 4, ICS, to tens of thousands of GALAXY S II devices purchased from cellular companies in the country or directly from us. We are very excited for the launch, hope you are too :)
While this is great news for Galaxy S II owners in Israel (as well as those with the unlocked international version upon which it's based), other territories may have a little longer to wait. We'd expect this to be particularly true for the U.S., where hardware differs from carrier to carrier.
Once released, the official firmware will obviously be tweaked and used world wide. Lets hope for the best. There are a lot of other devices which have been waiting to get the polished Android 4.0 for a Stable release with handsome looks..

Go Locker

I installed this app yesterday and I'm already in love with it. Was just going through the market and saw this in the most trending app's for Android.

You SHOULD get this on your mobile. Super simple to use, just install it and activate it by enabling it in the settings. Plenty of free themes/designs to download including the ICS theme (image below). The lock look of your Android will change totally and will rock.

You need to install Go Launcher as well for Go Locker to work, not necessary you have to use Go launcher, but just have it on your device.

Here are some Screen captures:

Postman - Superb App to Detect SPAM Messages

I've been using this app for a while now. It works great no matter what. It integrates with the stock sms app and seperates all the messages which you get on your mobile from unknown numbers/Spam numbers/Advertisements etc.

How does it work?? :O Its simple, the app just doesn't allow the messages which your mobile receives from the contacts/numbers which aren't stored in the mobile contacts. There messages are taken away by Postman and you get a notification when a new Spam mesaage arrives.

What if the mesaage is not spam? Simple again. Just go to poatman and long press on the message and press not spam after which whenever a message is received from that number, it directly is seen in your inbox.
I love this app. Saves a lotta time to see and delete stupid messages. I say its a much have app for the Indian mobile users. They receive the most amount of Spam.

Root Your Samsung Galaxy S2 - SGS2

Simple steps, Simple to do:

First of all you need to download Odin V1.85 which is the Desktop odin version for rooting your mobile.
Get Odin v1.85 from here: http://www.multiupload.com/1RTGSE061G
Just extract Odin folder and keep the odin3.ini file in it.

Rooting Samsung Galaxy S2:
Make sure you do it the easier way by using the CF-ROOT kernel.
Check your mobiles kernel in Settings>About>Kernel : There should be something like KJ3 or other code in it for which you have to download the CF root file to root your mobile from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

After downloading the respective file, unzip it and you get a .tar file. DO NOT UNZIP the .tar file.

Steps to install CF-ROOT kernel (Root your mobile):
1.Download the kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
2.Power off phone, and enter in DOWNLOAD MODE ( Press and Hold the Vol down + Menu/Centre +  Power On keys together, it goes to the download mode and then press the Vol Up key to continue)
3.Connect your mobile to the desktop.
4. Open Odin on desktop and click PDA and select the downloaded .tar CF-Root file on PDA. DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING ELSE or it might just brick your mobile.
5.Only Auto reboot and F.Reset Time which are checked from before will be marked. I REPEAT, DO NOT CLICK ON PARTITION or anything else.
6.Click Start.
7.Let the phone reboot.

After the reboot your mobile will have CWM (ClockworkMod) installed which means your phone is rooted.

Congratulations :-)
Now you are free to install any custom OS you want your beauty/SGS2 to have :)

iPhone Galaxy S2 or Samsung iPhone S2 ;)

Are you an iPhone lover and recently shifted to Android?? Now you can have the looks or an iPhone on your Android mobile.

Make you Samsung Galaxy S2 or for that matter any Android device into an iPhone.. Go to the market and download this app. Its a launcher like Go Launcher, Shell 3D launcher etc.

Download it from this link :  https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.espier.launcher

I have tried this for a couple of hours now on my Samsung Galaxy S2, no crashes faced yet. Everything works well. You can search for the apps or anything on your mobile like you do on an iPhone as well. Here are some screenshots from my device.

The icons have changed to cubes like they are on an iPhone, but everything inside the apps is the same as they open by default on Android.

Create folders simply by dragging one app on the other/overlapping them. Rename folders. Have the same look (obviously not the feel cuz' inside its basically Android) of an iPhone.

Get that shaky feeling when u wanna move or delete apps on this launcher. Just hold any app and they start vibrating/shaking and then your free to move them, create folders, delete apps..

Happy using an Android OS with the look of an iPhone!! But just the look.. From inside, Its Android which rocks!

Air Control

This is one great game on Android, Challenging, Thrilling, Exciting, Addictive and Fun.

The challenge here is to direct different types of flying machines to their exact landing path and you get a point for each one of them. The more you successfully route, the better you do. You need to drag/slide your fingers on the colored planes that you see and as soon as you direct them to the correct path, the machine turns to white color. Look at the pics below.

There are different maps you can try your luck with, different speeds of the air crafts, colourful and keeps your interest going as you play with them.

This is another map which is available in the full version of the game, locked in the trial one. The game is worth buying, it'll keep you glued to it till you beat your previous highest score.

The air crafts in the red circle that you see is a warning that they are going to clash. The mst important thing in the game is - Your machines shouldn't collide with each other, maintain a lil' distance between them. The timing is very very important. As soon as any 2 machines hit each other, the game stops.

You can increase the speed by tapping the forward icon on the bottom left of the screen. 2 forward icons mean slow speed which is set by default, once you tap it, only 1 icon is shown which means the speed of the air crafts increases. The game becomes difficult on faster speeds, as you reach a particular score the number of air crafts on your screen keep increasing. Managing them is a task..

Concentrate, keep your eyes on your screen, your fingers ready to move in any angle and give this a shot ;)

Try it and Im sure you will have fun playing this game.

Quick and Dirty Guide to have Less Battery Drain

Here's a quick & dirty guide to stop loosing your quick flushing out battery on your android mobile. Follow this and you'll surely save a lotta it. We have tested this on SGS2 and Moto Defy and the battery drain has reduced by a marginal percentage.

- Use 2G-only if you don't need 3G

- Monitor programs which cause wake-lock. use betterbatterystats and either uninstall or tweak them

- Do not use task killers. see the previous item and find the malicious programs instead of repeatedly killing them.

- Do not activate google latitude on maps.

- If you don't need pushmail, uncheck gmail sync and use k-9 mail to pull mail, lets say, every 1 hour or so.

- Go to settings / location and security. disable "use wireless networks" and "use gps satellites". enable them when you need them, other than that keep them disabled.

- Disabling auto-brightness and using a low brightness level helps. do you know that you can adjust the brightness by swiping your finger across the notification bar? try it...

- Using juicedefender may help, but it may also cause more drain. test it yourself.

- If you need more speed than 2.5G (i.e. edge) disable HSDPA (*#301279#, select 2 then select 1). you will have 3G instead of H(SDPA) and I think it is fast enough

- Disable fast dormancy. dial *#9900# and disable.

- Disable auto sign in for google talk (search for talk in appdrawer and use settings to disable automatic sign in)

- Disable samsung update and don't use samsung gadgets if you are not in love with them. (this part may be taken care of the rom developers)

- Try several radios. I recommend you to try KE7, KG2 and KH3 and choose the one which suits you best. KG2 seems to be the best for me. however, in terms of battery life, there is not much difference between those three.

- Be aware that more you use your phone more the battery drains  don't complain like "my battery drains quite fast but I did not use my phone. I only played angry birds for hours without making a single call" or don't expect to have a decent battery life if you use your phone as a computer or download torrents using your phone.

- Don't be a fool to believe "wow! 3 hours with screen-on and I'm still at 99%". That happens during battery calibration. Do not judge the battery during the calibration, judge the battery performance AFTER the calibration once you have depleted the battery completely and recharge it. you'll notice that during the calibration your battery will seem to last longer and that is why it is called "Calibration".

Change Dock Icons

Go to applications [menu where it shows all icons/apps installed in your mobile]  & press options..

Then press Edit and you get the screen below..

This is the place which lets you change all the icons and place them where ever you want, on any page in between the apps. You can create folders and add apps to them as well.

Some folks using android think that the icons on the dock are permanent and cannot be changed, mind you, in ANDROID, everything can be changed :D So after you press edit, Just hold and drag any app/icon you want on the dock or remove from the dock and place it wherever you want it in your applications.

Click add folder and you can create as many folders as you want in your applications.
For example: You can segregate your apps the way you wish.. Create folders for IM's, Games, System apps etc etc.
