Only yesterday one of my friends asked me if we could gift apps to our friends/family through the play store? & I told him to transfer the money to his/her account and ask them to buy it :D But, we have a good news,
The play store now has two new options - My Wishlist and Redeem.
Give the new play store a try if you still havent got the update notification : DOWNLOAD

Im not sure if its working, but you might be able to gift apps to people now.
